Sustainability

Ensuring an on-site canteen may seem like a good idea to keep workforce fuelled without leaving the construction site, but look at what else happens when you decide to work with Hive.

Reducing Emissions
Reducing the need to hop into a car to travel to an available eatery reduces emissions and reducing traffic also increases air quality
Sustainable Packaging & Suppliers
We actively seek sustainable packaging and produce suppliers to minimise wastage and minimise our carbon footprint, purchasing from local London farms and markets
Reducing Disposal Cup Wastage
Thousands of teas and coffees are consumed daily on site and we encourage our consumers to bring in their own reusable mugs to help reduce wastage. We can introduce a loyalty card to recognise their support to the environment and stamp every time they use their own mug, qualifying them to free tea or coffee when complete.
Fair Trade
As much as we would love to keep everything local, the best tasting beans come from international brands so we only use fair trade coffee to ensure everyone in the supply chain gets a fair share.
Wastage
It’s in evitable that wastage will happen, especially with over loaded dishes which cannot be consumed… so we are all about moderation; feeding our stomachs and not necessarily our eyes so most of our plates come back finished. And, nothing goes to waste. We will actively seek local people and pass on any produce or cooked meals that cannot be used next day within the canteen, but that are fit for consumption on the hand over day.
Energy Usage
We need water for hygiene but we are mindful to the environment too. All our staffs are trained to prevent water and energy wastage where possible.
Cooking Up Seasonal Specials
We rotate our special menus to work within the current season, lessening the demand out of season produce.
Recycle
Cardboard, glass, plastics… it’s all recycled.
